How to get mentioned by LLMs | Inbox Experiments #1
Get links from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and the others.
Hey, Yunus here 👋
Welcome the first issue of Inbox Experiments.
Quick story:
Last week, while checking my site analytics, I noticed traffic from OpenAI and PerplexityAI.
Turns out, my blog post got mentioned inside AI recommendations.
It got me thinking:
"Are AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity the new search engines?"
Short answer? Not yet.
But they’re already shaping the searching experiences more than we think.
So today, I'm sharing:
🧪 This Week’s Experiment → How to Get Your Brand into AI Recommendations
Here’s the 4‑Step Process:
1. Define a Sharp UVP (Unique Value Proposition)
AI tools don’t just return the best; they return the best for X.
ChatGPT is not a directory. It’s a smart peer that gives contextual answers.
Examples:
“Best logo generator for indie musicians”
“Top productivity tool for ADHD solopreneurs”
“Best analytics dashboard for Shopify stores”
🛠 Try This:
Ask ChatGPT: “What’s the best [your category] for [your target user]?”
→ If your brand isn’t listed, that’s your next content / positioning goal.
2. Research the Sources AI Cares About
LLMs pull from blogs, Reddit, YouTube transcripts, review platforms.
If you’re not visible where AI looks, you’re not even in the room.
Try This:
Ask ChatGPT & Perplexity questions using your main keyword. Enable search mode / deep research.
Note which sites get mentioned, cited, or quoted.
These are your LLM trust sources.
→ Go after backlinks.
→ Leave helpful comments on those blogs with your URL.
→ Suggest your product as an alternative in discussions.
🎯 Do This:
Open Perplexity → Ask: “What are the best tools for [your niche]?”
→ Then check each link shown. Can you get featured there? Comment? Pitch? Contribute?
This isn’t backlinking for SEO.
This is backlinking for visibility inside AI brains.
3. Create Contextual Content
LLMs don’t quote generic landing pages. They love situational content.
Instead of: “Our tool is the best AI writer”
Try: “We tested 4 AI writers for small business newsletters; here’s what worked”
Formats that work:
Blog posts with real comparisons
"Best for X" roundups
Experience reports (“What I built with this tool in 24 hours”)
🔥 Quick Win:
Write a post titled: “[Your Tool] for [Specific Audience] — 3 real use cases + data”
4. Build and Guard Your Online Reputation
AI doesn’t just count links. It senses sentiment.
LLMs notice:
⭐ Trustpilot reviews
📣 Reddit discussions
📷 YouTube mentions (transcripts)
🗣 Social sharing tone
Try This:
Ask users to describe your product in their words
Get someone to compare you in a blog or video
Join threads where your solution fits (Reddit, HN, X)
💡 Mini Experiment:
Search your product on YouTube using [transcript: your tool name]. Are you being talked about?
🛠 Tool Discovery
This week’s tool is one I built Breaktime Buddy
An AI-powered break assistant for solo workers, makers, and people who forget to breathe.
You open it. It checks your mood, and gives you exactly what you need in 5 minutes or less:
– mindful breathing
– light movement
– motivation boost
– or just a mental reset
Built it because I needed it. Turns out, others do too.

🧠 Personal Insight
It’s not about "hacking" AI. It’s about building real positioning that’s obvious to humans and machines.
"Business over algorithms."
Stay useful. Stay findable.
Also… did you see this?
OpenAI just announced that ChatGPT will now work as a search engine for shopping.
That means:
📌 Your site might already be getting visited by AI agents.
📌 If your brand isn’t visible in trusted sources, you’ll be skipped.
This shift makes AI visibility no longer optional. Now it’s part of the modern discovery funnel.
🌟 Community Spotlight
This week, shoutout to @ugur2nd — who built NotionPlus, a widget toolkit that turns Notion pages into interactive dashboards.
He’s quietly helping 7K+ users add countdowns, carousels, clocks, and more to their Notion workflows.
